Update on Sierra La Verne Country Club

August 12, 2021

Since the Sierra La Verne Country Club closed in 2019, many residents have been wondering what would happen to the property, which is near Wheeler Avenue and Golden Hills Road.

Besides some initial interest when the property was first listed for sale, the City has not received any recent formal inquiries about the status of the property by any developers, nor has any application been filed for development. After meeting with representatives of the golf course, City staff expressed that they did not see a development path moving forward that could be supported. Under the current land use designation as outlined under the City’s General Plan, housing development on the Sierra La Verne Country Club property would be prohibited.

With the closure of the golf course, the management company has completed weed abatement activities to mitigate fire risk, including the removal of several trees at the direction of the Fire Marshal. Recent concerns raised about the status of the ponds have been forwarded on to the responsible agencies including the city’s building and safety department, Humane Society, the Air Quality Municipal District and the Los Angeles County Mosquito Abatement for evaluation and enforcement.

As a reminder, residents are encouraged to use the city portal to report any additional concerns or issues they might see with the property. This will enable the city to track and respond to issues that arise. The City will continue to work through its internal departments, partnering agencies and property contacts to ensure the property is being maintained in compliance with applicable codes.
