As of February 9th, 2006 the disposal of batteries and other universal wastes such as fluorescent light bulbs in the regular trash became illegal. Instead, these wastes have to be taken to a household hazardous waste collection facility, or another authorized waste handler. The City of La Verne has partnered with Waste Management to collect batteries on behalf of residents to properly dispose of. Visit one of our kiosks in the lobby of City Hall or the Community Center to drop off your used batteries.
For more information on how to dispose of other universal waste please review the Household Hazardous Waste section. Recycling these hazardous items will help reserve space in our landfills while keeping our environment safer and cleaner.
